Tools and Materials:
Ball cock washers, as needed Ball cock assembly, as needed

A noisy toilet may be an indication of a worn out ball cock washer. You can easily fix this problem yourself by replacing the washer.

1. Remove Thumbscrews
Remove the two thumbscrews on top of the ball cock assembly.

2. Remove Float Arm
Lift the float arm out of the tank.

3. Pull Valve Plunger
Pull the valve plunger up and out of the ball cock.

4. Check Washers

Check the ball cock washers (Fig. 1), which are inside the plunger area. If they're worn or damaged, replace them.

5. Replace Assembly, as Needed
If the ball cock still leaks, replace the entire assembly.
