You’ll find a variety of insulating window films available (Fig. 1), including some intended specifically for auto or marine use.

Options
For home use you’ll be able to choose from:
* Mirror Reflective, which reflects over 50% of summer heat to the outside
* Tinted Reflective, which also reflects summer heat and comes in smoke, silver, or bronze
* Low-E "Winter" films that are designed to trap heat inside the home
Most films, unless the package specifically states otherwise, will work on either older single-pane or modern insulated (where the panes are separated by a sealed channel) windows and patio doors. Don’t use them on glass block, plastic glazing panel, or patterned/etched/frosted glass. Many films come as kits with razor knives and special squeegees included. However, a larger, rubber-edged window-cleaning squeegee is still necessary.
